With that said, yeah, the playtrickster and life trickster servers were lagging severly to the original with the lack of community and the frequent giveaways of major stuff. There will always be an appreciation in my mind and heart for this mmorpg. All the boss hunts, guild battles, socializing, legendary equip collections, rare item shop setups, drill events, mycamp setups, and interesting story quests I went through made my days feel fulfilling at a time when life was empty for me. I'm guilty of spending a lot of cash into the game, but I have no regrets. Hardly feels like it was all real to be honest. Though last I heard of it, its been undergoing maintenance for months for server upgrades or something.Ī those were some magical days to be honest. But if thats not the case for you, and you don't mind a small community too much, then definitely give LifeTrickster a shot. Honestly at this point, I think I'm ready to let go of Trickster for good since I feel like experienced all it has to offer.

But as you said, the community was such an important part of the original game that even the cash free gameplay wasn't enough to get me to stay. I also tried a non-P2W server called LifeTrickster, which I played for quite a while.

I tried PlayTrickster for a while until I realized it was just as P2W as the original servers. It's one my of regrets with this game lol :c ). Despite my rant, I still spent quite a bit of money on the cash gear (more than I care to admit. I had a bunch of different characters but my main was a buffalo named MrSwordfish. The only one I can remember was my cat's, which was xNeko3. What was your main's IGN? Maybe we crossed paths one time. We tried out everything from Pangya, Ragnarok, LaTale, Mabinogi, etc, but we never found a good-enough replacement for Trickster. That's exactly what my Trickster friends would do in the later years when we found our interest in TO beginning to fade. I can completely relate to coming back to Trickster every time though. They eventually changed it and made it so much easier. And people would resell the items for high prices. My least favorite part was the original 2nd job change quests, cause the items were next to impossible to find. I do admit, the pay-to-win was kinda annoying, but I'm guilty of having bought cash shop items cause they looked so cool HAHA. It definitely brings back memories, but it's just so empty compared to the original. I tried out PlayTrickster, probably the most-used private server for Trickster as of now. I wish I gave it a chance though, just so I could have stuck with the community longer. I stopped playing not too long after the REVOLUTION patch, cause the change was too different for me. You wrote this so vividly that I had such flashbacks haha. I will forever miss this era of video games. But times have changed and 3d games (which I can never get into) are all the rage. I wish game developers still made simple old school 2d mmorpgs like this. I would keep coming back to Trickster after trying to quit countless times for other games because Trickster was just that special.īut yeah, lots of good memories and experiences from that game. The (advanced for its time) stat and skill system, the colourful characters and unique classes, the excavation/drilling system and just the general aesthetic of the game as a whole was lovely. The bossing system was also extremely resource and time consuming due to the mandatory prequest trials, which just felt pointless and unfun for the players.īut despite its negatives, Trickster hit the nail on the head for many other aspects. There were problems with the lack of control and interface options (skill hotkeys being bound to F1-F8, ugh). The most obvious was the pay-to-win nature of the game due to the existence of the cash shop equipment that was vastly superior to ingame gear. It was a fun, charming old school mmorpg that fit my tastes perfectly, but it wasn't without flaws. I played from beta all the way to the game's shutdown and even played on a few private servers afterwards.
